Enterprise

Intent

The Enterprise curriculum is intended to develop key Enterprise skills in children throughout the school, across all key stages. The key skills, which it is intended children will develop throughout their time at Eastfield, include team work, communication, positivity, problem solving, ethical decision making, aiming high, managing risk, financial literacy, creativity, initiative and leadership. Some of these skills link with character education at Eastfield and therefore Enterprise provides an opportunity to further develop this area. It is intended that the children will be exposed to three main strands of Enterprise (Business, Moneywise and Global Citizenship).

Pupils will also have opportunities to learn about a variety of job roles and careers through assemblies and visits. The Enterprise curriculum is designed to meet the needs of our pupils. In the Autumn term pupils will work with our business partner and take part in £5 Blossom as a business enterprise. Moneywise in the Spring term supports the progression of financial education and follows the financial planning framework. Pupils will learn how to manage money, become critical consumers, manage risks and understand the important role money plays in our lives. During the summer term pupils will develop their skills as Global Citizens and join a wider campaign. This will link with the United Nations Global Goals.

By the end of their time at Eastfield Primary School children will have the Enterprise skills they need to be successful as they move to Secondary school. They will have enough skills and exposure to experiences to be able to perform well in Enterprise activities at Secondary school or have background knowledge to support them should they study Business or Enterprise at Secondary or higher level. They will have certain skills which they can draw on when they eventually progress into the working world.

Implementation

The curriculum is designed in such a way that children develop the Enterprise skills (team work, communication, positivity, problem solving, ethical decision making, aiming high, managing risk, financial literacy, creativity, initiative, and leadership) as they progress through the school. Each year group has objectives to focus on each term which are directly linked to the Enterprise skills. Across the course of a school year, they will visit a variety of different skills. The skills have been carefully planned and sequenced so as they move through the school, they will revisit skills covered in previous years but build on them further. They will also be introduced to new and more complex skills (see progression map). By the time they have reached year 6, they will have covered all of the skills and revisited skills many times so they are fully embedded. It is intended children will cover different aspects of Enterprise.

Impact

High standards of Enterprise across the curriculum. Skills to be applied in future ventures. Enhanced character virtues.
