Computing
Intent
The computing curriculum constructed to offer a high-quality teaching and learning experience based on the acquisition of key knowledge and computing skills across the school. Knowledge will be progressive and computing skills sequential. Pupils will be engaged, as projects are purposeful and demand an outcome and be aware of the importance of computing and technology in wider society. They will be aware of responsible internet usage and how to keep themselves safe online.
Implementation
Computing is taught in accordance with the National Curriculum. A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world. Pupils should also be equipped with the correct knowledge of computing ethics and the skills of Self Protection to enable them to use the internet safely and responsibly.
Impact
- Achieve high standards across the curriculum
- Demonstrate strong foundations of skills and attitudes that enable them to use technology competently and safely in society.
